This is something I started doing a couple months ago on Facebook. Facebook (facebook.com/a.f.litt ) is my dumping ground for photos. Pretty much everything without a thumb in the frame goes up there. The folders are publically accessible and I think there are plenty of nice shots mixed in there. I like the unlimited storage and the easy interface.
However, since I am in the habit of dumping twenty plus photos at once into those folders, I realized a lot of the my best shots were getting lost in the shuffle, so I decided to start individually posting a Photo of the Day on there to highlight the best work. Not that every shot is necessarily "portfolio" worthy, sometimes I pick certain photos for reasons other than the specific quality of the photo, but, in general, these photos probably do, as a group, represent the best of my work.
Not that all the best shots have made it up yet, some are being held in reserve, but by and large I do think these Photos of the Day are becoming a fairly worthwhile portfolio for me.
This is what I had to say about it on Facebook when I started 47 days ago:
I've decided to post one "featured" picture every day that I have internet access. Just for the heck of it. Feedback is appreciated. Some, obviously, will be better photographs than others. What I post will be somewhat reflective of my mood, so I may choose some shots more for their personal meaning to me than for their artistic "worth." It is just something to do, it sounds like fun, and it will kick my butt into gear getting out there to take some more pictures!
Today I was able to finish posting the "back" photos here on deviantArt. As I wrote recently, I am not sure how much I will be using this site in the future, so most of the work I post will probably be these daily selections. Still, as I get caught up sorting through a several year back log I have of photos needing to be reviewed and edited, I may be sneaking more up here into the featured photo album, though I am sure anything I post there will eventually end up being my daily selection at some point, as well.
As I've started looking into different photography sites, though, I think this site may become my "home base," so to speak, and for now, it is. That may change in the future, but for now, it is where I've been a member the longest and, from what I've seen so far, you get more bang for no bucks here than elsewhere, and that is also a major consideration for me at this point in my life. If this is the case, then I will be posting a fairly large number of pictures here beyond my daily posting.
So, over time, my albums may fill up here or they may not. Much will be determined over the next few days, weeks and months...

Today I am posting the 412th photo of of the day.
Is this my last photo of the day post? It very well might be. I am using the word hiatus instead of end, but it will probably be a long hiatus.
Originally, last December and January, I was really aiming to get 366 photos up this year, one every day. Life was a little more hectic than I expected, and daily posting this year has actually been the exception, not the norm.
Still, I tried to get back in the habit through the month of September. But then October happened and, half way through

After an inconsistent summer with many breaks from daily posting, I hope to get back on track now that the boys are back in school. Many of the posts I did put up over the summer went straight to 500px and deviantArt, not onto the blog, but I do hope to get back on track with daily posts here, as well.
